Sourcing, just one sector of our business, didn’t exist in its present form twenty years ago, now it’s practically a stand-alone industry. Strategic Meeting Management was not a factor twenty years ago either, now its vitally important to those multi-national corporations that have an SMMP in place and it will grow and mature in the years ahead, as will the defined role of the DMC within it. Corporate travel incentives and meetings were, twenty years ago, generally a function of the marketing department. Now it’s procurement that often has the authority to sign off.
For any DMC who labors under the illusion that we’re in the MICE business misses the point.
